How to verify provably fair results

To verify a provably fair result you need three things: the server seed, the client seed and the nonce or round number. You check that the revealed server seed matches the hash you saw before playing, then you recreate the result from the three values. On CSVOLT the verify page does the work in your browser. This guide walks through every game.

The idea in 30 seconds

  • Before you play, we show you the hash of the server seed. A hash is a fingerprint: it fits only one seed, and you cannot work out the seed from it.
  • Your client seed and a counter are mixed in, so we cannot choose a result on our own.
  • Afterwards the server seed is revealed. If its hash matches the one you saw, the seed was not changed. The same three values always give the same result, so you can recreate it.

Verify a case opening

Cases use your own seed pair and a nonce that goes up by one with every case.

Before you play

  1. Open Account, Fairness.
  2. Note the current server seed (hashed) and the current client seed. A screenshot is fine.
  3. If you want, type your own new client seed and save it. This is optional but it proves the seed pair was not picked against you.

Play

  1. Open your cases as usual. Each case uses the next nonce. Total plays with pair shows how many nonces you have used, starting from 0.

Reveal

  1. Back in Account, Fairness, rotate your seed pair. The previous server seed is now shown in full and a new hashed seed takes over.

Check

  1. Open the verify page and pick Case Opening.
  2. Enter the previous server seed, the client seed you used and the nonce of the opening.
  3. The verifier shows the seed hash. It must equal the hashed seed you noted in step 2.
  4. It also shows the roll, a ticket from 0 to 9,999,999.
  5. On the case page, click the item you won. Its ticket range must contain that roll.

If you opened several cases at once, each one used its own nonce. Check them one by one.

Verify an upgrade

The Upgrader uses the same seed pair and nonce counter as cases.

  1. Rotate your seed pair to reveal the server seed.
  2. On the verify page pick Upgrader and enter the server seed, client seed and nonce.
  3. The roll is a ticket from 1 to 100,000.
  4. Compare it with the win zone of that upgrade: inside the zone means a win.

Verify a case battle

Each battle has its own seeds.

  1. When the battle is created, its server seed hash is shown. Note it.
  2. The client seed is made at the moment the last seat fills, so nobody knew it in advance.
  3. When the battle ends, the server seed is revealed.
  4. On the verify page pick Case Battles and enter the server seed, the client seed, the round (counted from 0) and the seat (counted from 0).
  5. The roll is the ticket for that seat in that round. Compare it with the ticket range of the item in that round's case.
  6. The verifier also shows the tie roll and the jackpot roll, used when a battle ends level or in Jackpot Mode.

Verify a Double round

Double uses a public seed chain shared by everyone, made before the first round.

  1. During betting, the round's seed hash is shown. After the roll, the round seed is revealed.
  2. On the verify page pick Double and enter the round seed, the public seed and the round number.
  3. The verifier shows the tile and, for Volt, the Volt Spin multiplier.
  4. It also checks that the seed matches the hash shown before the round.

Because each round seed is linked to the next one in the chain, the seeds of later rounds were fixed too. The chain commitment is shown in the game's fairness panel.

Using your history

Under Account, History, every play has a verify panel. Once its seed has been revealed, it checks the result for you and links to the verify page.

What verification proves, and what it does not

It proves the result came from seeds that were fixed before you played and were not changed afterwards. It proves the result follows the drop chances shown on the case page.

It does not mean you will win, and it does not make a game easier. A fair game of chance is still a game of chance. If you want to know what makes a case site trustworthy beyond this, see how to choose a safe CS2 case site.

Troubleshooting

  • The hash does not match. Check that you copied the full seed with no spaces. The seed is 64 characters.
  • The roll does not match the item. Check the nonce. Remember it starts at 0, and each case in a multi case opening has its own nonce.
  • The server seed is still hidden. Rotate your seed pair. The current seed is only revealed when you rotate.
  • A battle seed is missing. It is revealed when the battle ends.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to verify a result?

The server seed, the client seed and the nonce or round. For battles, also the seat.

Why is my server seed hidden?

It stays hidden while you use it. Rotate your seed pair under Account, Fairness to reveal it.

Do I have to change my client seed?

No, but you can. Choosing your own client seed shows that we could not have picked a seed pair against you.

Can I verify a Volt Spin result?

Yes. The verifier shows the item from the ticket, and it is the same item the bonus reel showed.

Does the verifier send my seeds anywhere?

The result is worked out in your browser as you type.
