StatTrak and Souvenir are two special versions of CS2 skins. A StatTrak skin has a digital counter that tracks kills. A Souvenir skin comes from a Major tournament and carries stickers from that event. Both usually cost more than the normal version of the same skin, and you can never have both on one item.
StatTrak
What it does
A StatTrak weapon has a small counter on the gun that tracks confirmed kills made with it by its owner. The number shows on the weapon in your hands and in the item's details. Its name starts with StatTrak™ and is shown in orange in the game.
Where StatTrak comes from
StatTrak versions drop from weapon cases. In Valve's cases a StatTrak copy is rarer than a normal one, so only a share of drops carry the counter. Knives from cases can be StatTrak too, shown as ★ StatTrak™. Gloves never come in StatTrak.
Why StatTrak costs more
It is rarer and many players like the counter. The price gap depends on the skin: on popular skins StatTrak can be worth several times the normal version, on others the difference is small. A high kill count does not usually add much value. Some collectors even prefer a fresh counter.
StatTrak and wear
StatTrak has nothing to do with wear. A StatTrak skin can be Factory New or Battle Scarred like any other copy. See CS2 skin wear and float explained.
Souvenir
What it is
A Souvenir skin is a copy of a skin made to remember a CS2 Major tournament. Its name starts with Souvenir and is shown in yellow. It comes with stickers already applied: usually the tournament's logo, the two teams of a match and sometimes a player's autograph from that match.
Where Souvenir skins come from
They come from Souvenir packages tied to a Major and to a map collection. Each package belongs to a specific match. So a Souvenir skin can tell a story: the event, the map and the teams.
Why Souvenir costs more
Packages only exist for a limited time, so the supply of each Souvenir skin is fixed. A famous match, a well known autograph or a rare skin in a Souvenir version can push the price far above the normal version. Common Souvenir skins can still be cheap.
Souvenir rules
- A Souvenir skin can never be StatTrak.
- Souvenir skins only come from map collections tied to Majors, not from weapon cases.
- The stickers on a Souvenir skin are part of it.

Spotting them when you open cases
On CSVOLT, StatTrak and Souvenir items are marked on their item cards, in case contents, your inventory and the marketplace. In a case table the StatTrak version of a skin is a separate line with its own value and drop chance. Read the full name before you get excited about a line in a case. See CS2 case odds explained.
Should you pick a StatTrak line in a case?
When a case lists both the normal and the StatTrak version of a skin, compare the two lines:
- The StatTrak line usually has the higher value and the smaller chance.
- The normal line is the one you are more likely to see.
- Add up the chances of both lines if you just want that skin in any version.
There is no right answer. If you love the counter, the StatTrak line is the one you are hoping for. If you only care about the look, the normal version looks exactly the same in your hands, apart from the counter.
StatTrak beyond weapons
StatTrak also exists on some music kits, where the counter tracks MVP stars instead of kills. They work the same way: a separate version with its own value. Knives can carry the counter, gloves cannot.
Collecting tips
- Decide what you collect first: clean wear, a counter, or a story like a Souvenir from a famous match.
- Check the full item name on every card. "StatTrak" and "Souvenir" change the price more than most players expect.
- Compare the value on CSVOLT with your own reasons for wanting the skin, not with what it might be worth later. Prices move.
